This coming Saturday, March 10, 2012 (actually Sunday March 11, at 2:00 AM) the clocks will be set forward one hour for the start of Daylight Savings Time. Effectively, we will be “losing” an hour of operation at Shelly’s. The DC Government has instituted a new regulation that states that if beer, wine and liquor licensees wish to stay open until 3:00 AM that evening (which with the clock set forward will read 4:00 AM), they have to apply for a one hour extension in person at the Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration (ABRA) and pay a Daylight Savings Time Extension Fee.

We don’t agree with the institution of this fee to effectively operate the exact same number of hours we do every Saturday. In order to comply with the law and not risk our license, Shelly’s Back Room will close at 2:00 AM Sunday, March 11, 2012. We apologize for any inconvenience to our loyal Saturday night patrons. We will resume our normal business hours when we open for lunch at noon on Sunday, March 11.
